Transform paralyzing fear into climbing power this spring in Margalef, Spain
Is fear of falling holding you back from reaching your true climbing potential? Does the mental barrier feel more insurmountable than the rock itself? Rockbusters is excited to announce “THE SHARP END - Fear Management for Climbers”, a groundbreaking course designed to help climbers of all levels break through the psychological barriers that limit performance.
Running from April 25 to May 2, 2026, in the stunning limestone cliffs of Margalef, Spain, this specialized program goes beyond physical techniques to address what often matters most: the mental game.
Leading this transformative course is Hugo Meir, an Anaesthesiology Resident who brings a unique combination of personal experience and scientific expertise to mental coaching. Hugo’s journey with climbing began in 2002, and over the past two decades, he’s navigated the same challenges many climbers face: the demands of professional life, recovery from injuries, long-distance travel from the Netherlands, and most importantly, the mental weight of fear.
“I am a proud weekend warrior,” Hugo explains, “and I’ve spent the last 12 years focused on overcoming my fears and building a sustainable, healthy relationship with climbing.” His medical training provides science-based insights into both the physiological and psychological demands of the sport, making him uniquely qualified to help climbers understand and manage their fear responses.
With 20 years of coaching experience and expertise in multi-pitch instruction, Hugo understands that the greatest climbs happen first in your head.
This isn’t just another climbing clinic. The Fear Management & Mental Coaching course uses evidence-based techniques drawn from sports psychology, delivered in a safe learning environment—both physically and psychologically. The approach is balanced and personal, recognizing that each climber’s relationship with fear is unique.
Participants will gain practical, lasting tools, including:
Fear Response Management: Learn to recognize, understand, and channel fear into focused performance during crucial climbing moments
Grade-Pushing Confidence: Develop the mental resilience to attempt harder routes while maintaining safety awareness
Present-Moment Focus: Master techniques to stay mentally engaged during challenging sequences
Mental Recovery Strategies: Build resilience after falls or setbacks, turning failures into learning opportunities
Visualization Practices: Prepare mentally for routes and problems before touching the rock
Whether you’re a beginner struggling with height anxiety or an advanced climber hitting performance plateaus, this course provides personalized strategies to break through mental barriers.
The course requires participants to be competent in lead climbing and belaying, and to approach the week with an open mind. This is a safe space for discussing and exploring fear and growth, with confidentiality maintained among all participants.
It’s important to note: this is the first big step into training your mental muscle. Mental training IS training and takes more than just a week—but you’ll leave with the tools to continue the work long after the course ends.
