Patience is
a strength
Patxi started climbing at ten on the Basque limestone of Atxarte and climbed his first 8a at fifteen. He then spent a decade collecting hardware: Lead World Cup overall winner in 2006 and 2007, European Champion in 2008, World Champion in 2009. In 2007 he walked up to Bizi Euskaraz in Etxauri and onsighted it, the first 8c+ onsight in history.
A shoulder operation and a car accident in 2010 ended the competition years, and he announced his retirement in 2011. He rebuilt himself and found his second calling: coaching. Since 2013 he has trained Adam Ondra, who met him in Margalef and asked him to take the job. Today Patxi lives in Alt Urgell, bolts new routes and runs his PUC Series training system. His motto: falling is not failing, it is the only way to evolve.
He's the only one I trust completely.— Adam Ondra, on Patxi as his coach
