Boulder 8C+Sport 9a+Maine, USA

One of the great first ascensionists of his generation: 9a+ on a rope, 8C+ above pads, and firm opinions on what a grade should mean.

Find the line
then find the easiest way up it

A skiing teammate took Dave climbing in 1997. Within a year he had climbed The Present (8b+). In 2001 he made the fourth ascent of Action Directe and the first ascent of Psychedelic (9a). He moved to Europe in 2005 and promptly left his name all over Ticino: The Story of Two Worlds in Cresciano, From Dirt Grows the Flowers in Chironico, and the 9a+ Coup de Grace in Val Bavona.

More than twenty years later he is still at it, with first ascents of 8C+ boulders such as Euclase (2022). Dave is famous for two things besides climbing hard: he does not do grade inflation, and he does not do chipping. If he says it is hard, bring skin.
