While most people are still hunting eggs, Rockbusters spends Easter on the limestone of Istria, Croatia — a two-week sport climbing holiday across four distinct climbing areas, with daytime temperatures of 16–22°C and Klemen Becan on the coaching team.

Why Istria is worth the trip

Istria isn't one crag, it's a whole peninsula of climbing styles. Rovinj offers charming coastal crags with routes from 4a to 7c and Adriatic Sea views. Limski Kanal is the standout: an impressive limestone fjord with both vertical and slightly overhanging walls suited to every level. Vela Draga, tucked into Učka Nature Park, is a hidden canyon with unique rock formations most visiting climbers never find. Buzet rounds things out with technical limestone climbing in a picturesque inland setting. Moving between these areas through the trip means every day brings different rock and a different challenge, rather than working the same wall on repeat.

Spring in Istria also means the limestone offers exceptional grip without the summer crowds — you get long days on the rock in comfortable conditions, right as the Mediterranean spring brings the landscape into bloom.

What the trip looks like

The holiday runs as a one- or two-week course with daily climbing across Istria's four main areas, plus technical coaching worked in on the wall — movement skills, route reading, and mental approach to cruxes — with video analysis to reinforce what's learned. Rest days lean into the region: medieval hilltop towns, coastal walks along the Adriatic, olive oil and wine tastings, and a visit to Pula's Roman amphitheater, alongside traditional Easter celebrations in local villages. Accommodation is shared and basic, arranged in climber-friendly facilities rather than a generic hotel. Fly in and out of Trieste (Ronchi dei Legionari).
