DIFICULITY

Siutable for people with some CLIMBING EXPRIENCE (belay, lead belay, top rope, lead, ...). From sporty beginners through to experts leading at F8, our experienced team will plan the days so that everyone climbs as much they can and gets all the coaching they need.

EXAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1 - Pick up from airport at times to suit the group as a whole. Common dinner on the first night and a relaxed discussion about the week ahead, people's abilities and ambitions for the week.

Day 2 - Introduction to climbing. Getting a taste for the rock and some warm-up routes. Reviewing safe belay, top-roping and a refresher on leading for those with goals.

Day 3 - More climbing, top-roping on some trickier routes for the beginners. Gaining confidence and improving lead climbing technique for intermediates and advanced.

Day 4 - First lead climbs for the beginner group on easy terrain. Advanced belaying and controlling falls dynamically.

Day 5 - Time to add some technical coaching. Finding and working a red-point project for the advanced.

Day 6 - Discussion and practice on red-pointing, flash, and onsight methods. Making sure everyone is having fun and progressing their technique on the rock.

Day 7 - Consolidate our weeks work. Finish those projects we started and lock in the skills we learned. It's time for the farewell dinner and party for those with some energy.

Day 8 - Everyone gets back to the bus station or airport safe and sound and we say goodbye - until next time.

Note: Everyone needs a rest day but we don't fix these into the itinerary. Listen to your body and take break when you need it.

El Chorro

Hiker on the Caminito del Rey walkway in the El Chorro gorge, Málaga, Spain – Rockbusters destination

The Venue

El Chorro sits inland from Malaga, built around a limestone gorge (the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, spanned by the Caminito del Rey walkway) with village-level access to a large spread of sport climbing plus genuine multi-pitch and trad options.

Route and sector totals vary a great deal between guidebook sources (see Known Gaps below), but every approved source agrees El Chorro is a large, sport-dominant limestone area with a long, mild winter season.

We provide all the gear, but you will need to bring your own reasonably tight climbing shoes and harness. We have belay devices, slings, and helmets, but you might prefer to bring your own. We strongly suggest bringing a down jacket, a hat, a rain jacket, a pair of comfortable approach shoes, head lamp, sleeping bag, and a backpack big enough for carrying lunch and gear to the crag.

Additional Information

Need to know

We welcome intermediate to expert climbers with issues to lead. There is not much previous experience required although we recommend you to climb at least indoor regularly.

On the end for this week you will be fed up by climbing but hungry for more in the same time. Of course you can expect cool progress and confidence boost.

This is a climbing trip and our number one goal is to maximize your time spent on the rock.

Worries free climbing vacation. Book your flights and leave rest to us. We sort out all logistics for you.

More Information

More about this trip

Got the wintertime blues and want to get outside and climb?

Join Rockbusters in Spain's Andalusia, the most southerly extreme of the European mainland and home to some of the top winter climbing destinations on the Continent. Climbing here is as rich and varied as the local culture. From athletic overhangs to technical slabs, from tufas to crimps. With average rainfall very low and 5 - 6 hours of sunshine even throughout the winter, this is the place to go for some incredible climbing conditions when the weather is nasty elsewhere.

And there’s more to it. Forget about famous Spanish climbing destinations like Siurana, Margalef or Chulilla that get so much attention of the international climbing community. As well as a huge amount of visitors, unfortunately. Join us for this trip and discover a less known, non-crowded and superb-quality climbing spot you may have never heard of.

We’ll spend our time in Jaen, a Spanish province known as the largest olive oil-producing region of the world. Let us show you why Jaen is well worth visiting for its climbing though it lacks the reputation of the easily accessible areas in the north of the country. This place is much harder to get around without any knowledge of Spanish and thus it gets far less visitors and no crowds at its crags. The great thing is that it has much better rock than a lot of the well-known spots.

With us, you can enjoy a week or two of great climbing in a breathtaking landscape shaped by mountain ranges surrounding the city of Jaen and the never ending olive groves.

As with all our trips, we welcome all novice and expert climbers excited to climb, and cater our coaching to each client’s individual needs. If you have any questions about your specific skill level, please contact us directly.
