Patxi Usobiaga is a Spanish pro climber who has won World Championship in Qinghai, 2009. He is also one of few people who has won two overall Lead Climbing World Cup competitions in a row. His way to success has always been very sophisticated, complex, and exceptionally strict (and hard) training. Patxi is the first climber ever to send 8c+ on-sight. He has redpointed various routes of 9a and 9a+ grade. You could hardly find a coach more competent to lead our Advanced Sport Climbing Course!

 

Participants of this course are granted to learn a whole set of tricks and mental skills to approach, project, and climb hard routes at their limits, as well as the ability to handle mental pressure, fears, and stresses. Being a practitioner of evidence-based sports science, Patxi will also measure the participants’ physical strength, and analyze their physical as well as mental strengths and weaknesses. As a result, he will set a one-month free individual training plan with the possibility to supervise a climber’s progress in the long term.

 

It goes without saying that all Rockbusters climbing trips and courses are based on the "LEARN by DOING" philosophy. As a result, you will get all the coaching when actually climbing the best routes at a crag and spending as much time on the rock as you possibly can. Our Sport Climbing Course also gives you the opportunity to get a taste of this lifestyle and become a part of our climbing crew.

The main focus at Rockbusters is to deliver great quality and quantity of climbing. We will provide all necessary coaching and go through all safety and technical details so everyone is able to do as much climbing as possible while enjoying climbing with each other. We will push you to achieve more during your stay, arming you with all the necessary techniques and safety measures before you try anything new.

During this sport climbing course, we will open the door for you to another dimension and show you how to climb and nail your hardest routes. This week is for those who are stuck with a certain grade and no matter how hard you train the grade is still the same and desired progress is not happening. This week is about starting to believe in unbelievable, confidence-building, and finding your real potential. Be ready to step out of your comfort zone.

As well as building confidence, strength and taking on some tough climbs, this is a Rockbusters course, so you can also expect a hefty dose of fun! We love what we do and that really comes across in all of our trips and programs. And… we like to party almost as much as we like to climb, so get ready to have a blast on and off the rock. The informal, fun atmosphere of our courses is famous, but we never let this distract us from your climbing progression.

 

Patxi sport climbing & bouldering performance analysis


Climbing performance is defined by the combination of these three components: mental power, physical power, and technique skills. We will be discussing how big a part each component has in your climbing performance. For a performance climber, the goal is to approach mastery at all these areas in order to reach their potential. And it doesn’t matter if you are a sport climber, boulderer or you aim for hard big wall climbs.

There is no one better qualified than Patxi Usobiaga to lead this course. Patxi, an ex-world champ, and a “training monster” say that his “talent is to be able to suffer”. He is one of the world’s best climbers and has coached pros like Chris Sharma, Adam Ondra, and Daniel Woods to name just a few.

Pair up with Patxi for a week of climbing and training sessions, send some cool on-sights, flashes, or red points in his home destination of Oliana, and find out where your main limitation is and how to improve your overall climbing performance. Simply climb BETTER, HARDER and MORE!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

reasonalby tight climbing shoes / harness / helmet / belay device / 2 screw gate carabiners / 60cm sling

We provide most of the gear, but you will need to bring your own climbing shoes and harness. We have belay devices, slings, and helmets, but you might prefer to bring your own you use to. We strongly suggest bringing a down jacket, a hat, a rain jacket, a pair of comfortable approach shoes, a headlamp, a sleeping bag, and a backpack big enough for carrying lunch and gear to the crag. 

FOOD

Upon arrival, before you get to the place of your final destination you will need to stop in the store to shop for breakfast and lunch food for the week. Usually, there is equipped kitchen with a refrigerator in the place and close-by shops to replenish supplies.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars to have dinner. Communal dinners can be organized if required.
