Deep Water Solo Mallorca: 2020-10-17 - 2020-10-24

DEEP WATER SOLO Mallorca

17.10.2020 - 24.10.2020

Deep water solo is one of the purest styles of climbing giving you real freedom when climbing. Its' connection with Mallorca it's hard to describe, one have to taste it!

Among climbers, Mallorca is known as a mecca for Deep Water Solo climbing. It is without a doubt the top destination in the world to enjoy this pure style of climbing, and every October Rockbusters hosts this trip to share their psych for DWS. The best conditions are in October and early November as the sun stays low in the sky and dries the moisture out of the coastal caves. The temperature isn’t too hot or cold at this time, and the sea is still warm from the hot summer months. In recent years loads of new crags have been bolted on the island, and on overcast or cooler days we will spend our time exploring these lesser known sport-climbing areas, making for a really varied and exciting tour.

Climbing isn’t the only thing that makes people fall in love with this trip; Mallorca also offers breathtaking scenery. You’ll spend your week hanging from cliffs rising up from the turquoise-blue water of the Mediterranean, hiking through secluded beaches and coves, relaxing between climbs amongst the pine trees, and sharing well-earned beers on the beach at local chiringuitos.

Deep water soloing (DWS) is known in Spanish as psicobloc, which directly translates to “psycho-bouldering”. It involves climbing cliffs with no rope, but with the warm, blue waters of the Mediterranean ready to catch your fall.

Majorca, the birthplace of hard DWS, was made famous as a world-class climbing destination by Chris Sharma. In 2007, he ascended the iconic Es Pontas arch, putting up a “king line” potentially as hard as 9a+/b. Since then, climbers from all over the globe have made their pilgrimage to the Majorcan cliffs to test their endurance and their mettle!

The limestone cliffs offer test pieces for every level, starting with easier grades (5+) and low heights.

Deep-water soloing can be a little intimidating at first, but with the help and instruction of our experienced guides, you will quickly gain confidence and get to fully enjoy this beautiful, pure style of climbing. The Majorca DWS trip is all about new experiences, adventure and simply having fun in the great outdoors, but with Rockbusters coaching you might also surprise yourself with some hard sends!

Majorca also offers many world class sport climbing crags which have been bolted in recent years. They are worth visiting not only when the seas are rough! We will show you the best, secret locations, often not featured in any guidebooks.

With innumerable quality lines available on the coast and throughout the island, you will experience a great climbing adventure while constantly improving your technique and performance. You will immerse yourself in the local climbing culture and enjoy the famous, Rockbusters community spirit. Climbing with us is like climbing with friends - very resourceful, experienced friends, who have everything planned and focus on your climbing throughout the trip!

The trip is suitable for anyone with basic climbing skills, such as belaying and tying on. Our team can accommodate every level, from beginners to pros. One-to-one coaching sessions and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere are a guarantee of an unforgettable, amazing trip. If you’re a confident swimmer hungry for new experiences, this trip is perfect for you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

We provide all the gear, but you will need to bring your own climbing shoes and harness. We have belay devices, slings, and helmets, but you might prefer to bring your own. While deep water soloing your shoes will get wet, so we recommend bringing two pairs. We strongly suggest bringing a down jacket, a hat, a rain jacket, a pair of comfortable approach shoes, 2 bathing suits or quick-drying clothing, towel, head lamp, sleeping bag, and a backpack big enough for carrying lunch and gear to the crag.

FOOD

Upon arrival we will take you to the store to shop for breakfast and lunch food for the week. Refrigerators are provided by the campsite, and we will return to the store once more during the week to replenish supplies.

Communal Spanish-inspired dinners prepared by a professional chef are offered every night for €15. They include entree, salad, dessert and wine. Dietary restrictions and allergies can be accommodated with advanced notice.

We may also decide to plan a night out at a restaurant in one of the many nearby towns.

Accommodation

Bunk rooms at a campground with hot showers, wifi, and swimming pool for sunny morning dips.
