Rockbusters' Location - Arco

IMG_0601.JPG

For many decades, Arco has been one of the most popular Italian rock climbing venues. It is located in Northern Italy (Trentino), close to the beautiful Lake Garda, which is a well-known sailing destination. It is also visited by many MTB fanatics and, in recent years, climbers have started to develop deep water soloing above Garda’s clear waters.

The small town of Arco is very picturesque and, apart from word class climbing, it has a lot of attractions to offer: great food and wine, stunning architecture, well stocked climbing and MTB shops, a friendly outdoor community and a chilled atmosphere.

Climbing in Arco

The crags around Arco offer a wide range of grades and climbing styles, and most of them are easily accessible. From multi-pitch routes on big walls to a great variety of sport lines, Arco has something for everybody.

The rock in Arco is a superb quality limestone. Many of Arco’s climbing sectors have been popular for decades, so it is best to have a guide to show you the best places to climb where the rock is not polished. Luckily, there are thousands of sport climbs in Arco, spread over fifty distinct sectors.

The rock here is so perfect, it seems to be made just for climbing. It is covered with pockets and tufas, and often forms amazing overhangs. Most of the climbs are located in beautiful scenery and the atmosphere is always very friendly.

If you fancy big walls over sport climbs, there are about 30 multi-pitch sectors you can choose from. They are Dolomite-style big wall routes on steep limestone, with some of them reaching up to 1400m. The majority of multi-pitch climbs are 200 to 600 metres long and they require trad style protection of cams, nuts and friends.

Best times to visit Arco

The best seasons for climbing in Arco are spring and autumn. Summer temperatures are more suited for sunbathing at Lake Garda than climbing.

The whole area of Arco has a well developed tourist base which allows you to choose from many different types of accommodation: campsites, apartments, guesthouses and hotels.
