In November 2016, British climber Pete Whittaker became the first to rope free El Capitan in under a day. Rope solo free climbing is a technique that allows climbers to venture into big walls without the support of a partner but with the safety of gear to catch a potential fall. Pete free climbed clean all pitches of “Freerider” (5.12d) in just over 20 hours.
